Education for Boys!

In Bangladesh, quite a few children cannot go to school or drop out because of poverty. HFW-Bangladesh has implemented a scholarship program, the “Hunger Free Hiro Scholarship”. But in order to accept boys, we started the new scholarship program from January 2005.
Eleven scholars from 5 to 13 years old were selected in the first year of the program; including Rabiul Islam, whose family’s financial position was severe despite his farther working as a street vendor and his grandmother took him in to continue studying under her care; and Azizul Hakkim, whose parents are farmers but their earnings are so few that it is difficult to take care of a big family. Scholars were selected from among students from poor families, father-less families, and orphans, having met the condition of a strong desire to study. Four of them receive 50 Takas per month, another four receive 75 Takas, and another three receive 100 Takas.
As this scholarship program is operated by utilizing interest from long-term savings accounts to supply the scholarship payments, we can continually finance students in subsequent years. We have 10,000 Takas in savings, \154,240 ($1,200 =70,524 Takas) kindly provided by Nihon Kanji Noryoku Kentei Kyokai, plus funds that HFW-Bangladesh gathered within the country. The interest from these is the financial source of the scholarship. (2005.2)
