Activity Report: Bangladesh
HFW Bangladesh is running projects in 40 villages in 3 districts. Women, youth, government officers, and other NGOs are all giving strong support. “\1 from Japan will give 15 taka” is the catchphrase among the people of the community. Their projects are also widely covered by newspaper + TV in Bangladesh.

In Bangladesh, decrease of forest area and varieties of woods become a subject of discussion. HFW distributed nursery trees to residents since 2001 and promoted tree plantation at home and public facility. Fruit trees such as litchee and mango or which can be used as medicine is distributed, so that people may take good care of them. Posters appealing importance of tree planting is produced and posted in activity areas and other places such as government offices and national facilities, etc.
In the third year of the tree plantation project this year, special program is executed. Total 1234 trees are planted in Kaligonji, Boda and Bhanga counties.
In July 2004, a nursery has been built near the HFW office in Boda.With this, domestic species with fear of decrease can be protected, in addition to popular brands mass-produced by the raising seedling traders.
From July to August 2004, “Tree plantation memorial day of the village” is settled in each village. Village Development Committee (VDC), a volunteer of HFW members charged with planning and village people, VDC and YEH members uplifted the festive atmosphere to plant trees, which was a new trial. Bands were playing and dancing and they planted seedling in their garden with enjoyment which increased interest to village environment and were well received. (2004.12)
