A music festival was held on August 3rd at the Nagoya Mizuho RC Primary School in Tumbaali-Lwemwedde Hunger Free Zone (HFZ). With the goal of protecting the rights of children in Uganda, HFW has been carrying out four types of awareness raising activities: offering children's rights seminars and lectures aimed adults, fostering child leaders who can promote children's rights, and developing the ability of children to express themselves. The purpose of the music festival was to present the results of this work. Five other primary schools supported by HFW also participated.
At the festival the students danced and took part in original performances full of songs and related to children's rights. The event was an opportunity to communicate important ideas concerning children's rights to local residents and caregivers. The students were also enthusiastic about meeting students from other schools, and both teachers and students asked that the festival be held again next year.

The music gala was a very good experience especially for the pupils; my request is to make it an annual event such that each school gets the chance to host the gala to benefit its entire school community. From the presentations made by the children that day I am sure the parents and entire community of Tumbaali ? Lwemwedde learnt a lot about children rights and HIV/AIDS.(Mr. Ssemanda Karim 30 years old, a teacher Good Times infant school) |
