On September 17, 2004, seven classrooms, teacher’s office, principal’s office, and toilets of Yoshimi Yurie Memorial Primary School (former Mirembe Maria primary school) have been built and reconstructed and an inauguration was held with the attendance of the vice president of Uganda.
This school has been operated by the Namayumba sub county Association of Disabled with various ingenuities such as receiving support by the local inhabitants and sub county and promoting plantation, pig farming and beekeeping and using them in the school lunch. However, as classrooms were small and rain leaks, the studying environment was the worst.
In spite of such bad conditions, as teachers including physically impaired persons taught classes of 132 pupils including disabled and non-disabled children with keen interest, the performance of the school is top-class in the sub county. There were also job-training courses for graduated disabled children.
The HFW has been investigated to support this school with high sense of independence since 2003. This time, building and reconstruction has been executed by bestowing the name of Yurie Yoshimi, a HFW member who contributed 2,300,000 yen. Number of pupil will be increased to about 300 in the future. Application has been made to be a public school so that salary to teachers and construction fee of teachers’ lodgment are paid by the public expense.
