Activity Report: Uganda
In Wakiso District near the capital city of Kampala, education program is being organized. People of community contribute materials and labor for the projects. In the future a number of projects we planned, including adult literacy course, agriculture training, vocational training, safe water, and public toilets.

Completed reconstruction of the school building of Good Times school

| Background |
People of Kabubbu and YEH Uganda members constracted a matarnal/elementary school. But the school building did not have windows, doors, desks or chairs. There were only few toilets that were not clean, and this discouraged girls to attend the school. Drinking water is contaminated and threatened the health of over 80 people of the neighbouring community. |
The reconstruction of Good Times school building, which we asked for your support and sent the funds in March 2002, has completed. The completion ceremony was held on August 30.
A school building only with sun-dried bricks and tin roofs is now equipped with doors and glass windows. An earth floor is covered with concrete. The students, who had been studying with wooden bench as desks, kneeling on the ground, are now studying with new desks and chairs. A bathroom, which had been very unsanitary without door, was replaced with new bathrooms separated for boys and girls. Girls who would hesitate to go to school because they did not want to use the bathroom can feel comfortable now. Also a spring, which had been left unclean, was cleaned and now protected by a concrete cover structure. Clear water is coming out of a pipe.
Committees elected from local community will be responsible for operation of school and management of a spring from now on. (Last Updated on 2002.9)
