■ Report

Project site NAKKEDDE Parish, Namayumba Sub County, Wakiso District
Project period February 2003
Target group 132 school-going children
Before

→ During the constraction

The reconstruction of a school is underway. The population of Nakkedde consists of 5000 plus residents, including 132 school-age children, but this parish has only one elementary school. Although the safe-water ensuring project has been in effect, the educational environment for children was far from safe. Fragile walls, rain-leaking ceilings, and, especially unsanitary toilets that had no privacy caused girls to avoid attending school.

This January, HFW held a conference with residents and the local officials. Having gained cooperation from the public, the renovation project began in February of this year. Under the newly formed school construction committee, progress has been made on a washroom, the structural foundation, and the walls of the school. The new school name, NAKKEDDE PEACE, was dedicated to the donor group, PEACE (Headed by Ms. Ikumi Yamagishi). (2003.2)
