Enabling Proactive Organizational Self-Assessment and Advancing Collaboration with the Government
The two women's group federations in Kaliganj and Boda Upazila conducted an organizational assessment to gauge how close they are to their "ideal state", in preparation for the end of HFW’s support. During this self-evaluation, members reflected on their activities and assessed their achievements. This process helped them develop a shared understanding of the challenges they face and strengthen their capabilities.
In fiscal year 2023, HFW provided support during the assessment, but by 2024 the leaders had taken the initiative and were able to conduct the evaluations themselves. Through the women's persistent efforts, collaboration with the government has advanced, leading to results such as training opportunities, the provision of seeds and saplings, and the acquisition of grants. To ensure they can continue their activities independently after HFW’s support concludes, it will be crucial to expand their network of reliable partners and gradually diversify their sources of support, rather than relying primarily on HFW.
The beneficiary
Before Josna Begum became involved with HFW, her family faced immense hardship. Her husband fell ill and could no longer work, leaving them with no income. It was difficult for her to support her family, pay for medical treatment, or even send her children to school.
Josna Begum has been involved with HFW since 2008. Through several training sessions provided by HFW, she was able to establish a backyard vegetable garden at her home. She now raises chickens, ducks, and grows vegetables, providing her family with fresh eggs and vegetables. After meeting her family's needs, she sells the surplus eggs and vegetables at the local market, helping to ensure financial stability.
Over the past 16 years, she has been able to purchase land for both farming and housing, and her children have advanced their education. Today, she serves as the president of the women's group in Baniapara village and leads the federation that unites many women's groups.
