I want to know more about hunger in this world! Three secondary students came to HFW.

Taking notes immediately on impotant details. The participation of people and supproting independence are important

HFW accepts more than 10 secondary school student visits yearly, to support the schools’ international cooperation initiatives. On April 14, three second year students from the Okazaki Junior High School, which is affiliated with the Aichi University of Education, visited the HFW office as part of their school excursion.

At this school, a lot of effort is put into the student's integrated study, which involves students pursuing issues that they are interested in. This group of students was working on poverty.

NISHIHIRA Kumiko, a university student who is a member of HFW's youth organization Youth Ending Hunger (YEH), took charge of explanation. When explaining to them about the current situation of hunger and about the activities that HFW and YEH carry out in various countries, one student asked a pointed question of "wouldn't there be a population explosion if the hunger issue were resolved?"

Ms. Nishihira answered that in developing countries there is a tendency to have many children to provide a labor force due to poverty, and if poverty is eliminated, the rate of the population increase should also stop.

The students nodded with satisfied expressions. The three students are calling for more people to take an interest in global issues. They say that they are planning to organize a lecture on the issues of hunger and hold fund-raising activities.

Exchanging ideas with Ms.Nishihira, close in age

I started to understand what I am to do after listening to today's talk. I found out that YEH Aichi is close by and students can get involved in it, so I am eager to take part in the group too!
