Hobbynglish – Let’s learn how to cook Bangladeshi curry in English! – We all enjoyed meal.

Bangladeshi national Mr. Khandakar Anisur Rahman taught participants cooking curry.

HFW organized “Let’s Enjoy! Learning to cook authentic curry in English” in the evening of Thursday, July 15 in Akasaka, Tokyo. This kind of event to learn hobbies like cooking and yoga in English is called ‘hobbynglish (hobby + English)’ and became popular recently. It is a new challenge for HFW to have participants learn how to cook Bangladeshi curry in English using organicall-grown vegetables, enjoy organic wine and organic beer. Participants were seven including students and office workers.

Bangladeshi national Mr. Khandakar Anisur Rahman and Mr. Abdul Waddud taught participants cooking curry. They live in Japan and are well-known among the regulars of monthly Bangladeshi charity curry party. Event staffs were four Japanese members consisting a HFW staff, two interns and a volunteer. Under the instruction of Anisur and Waddud, participants cooked vegetable curry and chicken curry in around one hour. They enjoyed curry and English conversation together like, “Have you ever tried Bangladeshi curry?” “No, I have not experienced it before. So, this is the taste of home cooking!”

An intern introduced about HFW activities after they enjoyed the meal. The net profit of ¥17,748 will be used for helping Bangladeshi people to become self-reliant.

“It tastes good!” Conversation went smoothly while enjoying curry.

I’m not good at speaking in English, but I found it easier to do while cooking. I was surprised to learn that promotion of organic farming supports poor farmers become self-reliant. Organic vegetable I ate was so delicious that I got interested in organically-grown foodstuff!
